The European Union's agri-food exports experienced a slight increase of 1.7% in the first four months of 2021, reaching a value of 63,000 million euros, while imports decreased by 5.1% to 40,300 million euros. This resulted in an agri-food trade surplus of 22,700 million euros, up by 17% compared to the same period in 2020. The most significant increases in exports were seen to China and the United States, while imports experienced a notable decrease from the UK and the US, but increased from countries like India, Brazil, Serbia, Australia, and Argentina. The product categories with the largest decreases in import values were tropical fruits, nuts, spices, and palm and palm kernel oil, while there was a significant increase in imports of oilseed cakes and soybeans.
