According to a USDA GAIN report, EU chicken meat imports increased by 2% in 2023 and are expected to rise by 3.5% in 2024, with the majority consumed by the European hotel, restaurant and institution sector. While imports from Brazil remained steady in 2023, those from the UK dropped by 20% due to strict post-Brexit sanitary controls. Ukrainian chicken meat imports, however, surged by over 50% in 2023, thanks to EU regulation 2023/1077 allowing tariff-free and quota-free entry into the European market. This regulation is due to expire on June 5, 2024, unless extended.
