The Netherlands has flagged four Argentine and two Brazilian shipments of soybean meal containing prohibited genetically modified organisms, leading to at least three market withdrawals and prompting Argentina to question Dutch testing methods on Tuesday (28). The findings bring into focus the compliance with GMOs of the European Union's largest suppliers of animal feed raw materials and may increase demand for other origins, including the US and Ukraine. The European Commission's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed shows four notifications of "Unapproved GMO in soybean meal from Argentina" this year, dated April 14, 17 and 27, and March 19. In addition, the system showed two shipments of prohibited GMOs from Brazil, notified on February 11 and April 22. Brazil is the largest supplier of soybean meal to the EU, followed by Argentina.
