The European Union (EU) experienced a slight decline in organic agri-food imports in 2020, totaling 2.79 million tons, a 1.9% decrease from the previous year. Despite this, the EU market for organic agri-food products continued to grow. The reduction was primarily due to a drop in imports of cereals, oilcakes, and sugar, which were offset by organic tropical fruit and rice. The top EU importing countries were the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, with Ecuador and the Dominican Republic emerging as the leading suppliers, overtaking China and Ukraine. The main imports included tropical fruit, nuts, spices, oilcakes, sugar, milk powders, butter, unroasted coffee, cocoa, meat products, fruit, vegetables, milk yoghurt, and honey. The ten largest export countries of organic products to the EU accounted for 64% of organic imports in 2020.
