Europe is currently experiencing its largest outbreak of avian flu in two years, with a total of 2467 outbreaks in broiler birds and 3573 cases in wild birds. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has reported that this epidemic, which has affected over 37 countries ranging from the Svalbard Islands to southern Portugal and eastern Ukraine, marks the largest epidemic since 2021. There are concerns about the potential for these flu viruses to contaminate humans, posing a risk to public health. The Netherlands has been hit particularly hard, with plans to cull over 102,000 chickens.
