Europe Leads Global Coffee Consumption

Europe consolidates itself as the planet's largest coffee consumer, with an average of 147,000 bags consumed daily. According to data released by the Coffee Observatory, the continent's total annual consumption reached 53.7 million 60kg bags in the last evaluated coffee year, which corresponds to 30.3% of global demand. The survey, based on the most recent data from the International Coffee Organization (ICO), shows that global consumption reached 177 million bags between October and September — the period adopted by the ICO as the marketing year. In the same interval, global production totaled 178 million bags, generating a small surplus of 1 million bags. The ICO divides coffee production into four major regions: South America, Asia & Oceania, Africa, and Caribbean, Central America & Mexico.
