From January 2000 to February 2023, Brazil's fresh chicken meat exports were, on average, 55% more valuable than those of North America, according to FAO data. Only twice during this period did Brazilian prices fall below the average, once in the early 2000s and once during the pandemic. The pandemic also led to a shortage of Brazilian chicken meat. In the first two months of 2023, a new price drop occurred, but US prices fell to levels higher than Brazilian prices, resulting in a Brazilian margin of around 60% in the two-month period.
