The Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) has announced a US$10 million package to boost yam export, with the aim of maintaining Ghana's position as the world's largest yam exporter. This announcement was made during a stakeholder forum by GEXIM's CEO, Lawrence Agyinsam. The funding is in line with the bank's role to support and develop trade between Ghana and other countries, and to increase Ghana's international competitiveness. In 2020, yam tubers export reached a record high of US$48 million. GEXIM has previously supported the sector with financial and technical assistance to enhance productivity and international trade. Other stakeholders like the Ghana Root Crops and Tubers Exporters Union (GROCTEU) and other organizations have been encouraged to align with global trends and standards in yam production and export.
