An online seminar by Vietnam's Plant Protection Department outlined the growth trajectory of the country's mango industry, with exports sur surging by 42% in 2021 to nearly 600,000 tons. Mango products are exported to 53 countries, and fresh mangoes are exported to 22, led by China. The industry has seen significant growth in exports to Japan and Korea. However, a halt in mango imports by Japan was mentioned due to a mix-up with Cat Chu mangoes, a variety exclusively grown in Kowloon, Dong Thap. Following this incident, Japan has reinstated imports but has imposed strict controls. The Plant Protection Department is encouraging provinces to establish specialty stores in major cities to make agricultural products more accessible to consumers.
