Poland: Higher carp production but higher retail fish prices

It is estimated that this year, carp production in our country is 10 percent higher than a year ago, but the purchase price of this fish is lower than then. This does not translate into retail prices, because carp is more expensive - the president of the Fish Promotion Society "Pan Karp" Zbigniew Szczepański told PAP. He added that according to estimates, this year's carp catches will be higher than a year ago by about 10 percent and will amount to about 20 thousand tons. While last year the sales price was at the level of PLN 17-18/kg, this year PLN 14-15/kg is proposed - Szczepański noted. He added that in the opinion of fishermen, the price proposed by the processing industry is too low, because production costs increase every year due to energy and fuel prices, and the increase in the minimum wage.
