In April 2022, Vietnam experienced a 9.7% increase in cassava and cassava product exports, reaching 234,988 tons with a turnover of 105.02 million USD. The average price per ton rose by 19% compared to the previous year, largely due to increased demand and lower export volumes. The majority of these exports were to China, accounting for 91.5% of the total volume and 98.5% of the total turnover. However, the article also highlights challenges such as high logistics costs, dependence on the Chinese market, and competition from other countries like Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. To mitigate these challenges and diversify its export markets, Vietnam is exploring opportunities presented by Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including the EU-Vietnam FTA, which offers tariff-free quotas for cassava products. Additionally, the country is focusing on improving cassava quality for the European market and is actively exploring other markets through FTAs.
