In 2021, Vietnam's seafood exports saw an 8.5% increase, reaching a value of 6.4 billion USD, which accounts for 72% of the country's total seafood export value. The exports were led by shrimp at 44%, followed by pangasius at 18%, and other fish at 19%. Tuna, squid, and octopus also contributed significantly. The highest earning species was whiteleg shrimp, followed by pangasius and tuna. The COVID-19 pandemic affected the exports of salmon, cod, pollock, saba, and red shrimp due to high transportation costs and reduced orders from processed materials. However, there was a significant increase in the export value of surimi, octopus, scad fish, clams, crabs, seabass, fish sauce, and yellowtail fish.
