Spain: Faba bean producers ask for help due to the serious impact of a fungus on crops in the West

Several faba bean producers in Villayón, where some of the largest in the region are located, are warning of the poor harvest that is coming. The anthracnose fungus, together with the white mite and the excess of humidity in recent months are destroying a good part of the plants. "We have had a bad year and this one will be worse. Everything is stained," warn the farmers, who are asking for more help from the Administration, especially to give them tools and products that help them fight the pests. "The Ministry has to get more involved, more research is needed because there are fewer and fewer effective products," lament those affected. One of the farmers tells this newspaper that the affectation by the anthracnose fungus is alarming, to the point of believing that he will not make a profit to cover this year's expenses.
