The lemon harvest in the Guadalhorce Valley is at risk of bankruptcy due to falling prices and increasing imports from South Africa and Turkey that do not meet European standards. The average production cost of a kilo of lemons is 30 to 35 cents, while prices have dropped to 15 cents for conventional lemons and 20 cents for organic lemons. The region, which produces 49.1% of the total lemons in Andalusia, is facing a serious threat to its position as a quality producer due to the increase in imports from countries that do not meet European standards.
