The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has launched a $ 1.5 million project in Sri Lanka, funded by China, to enhance the quality and global competitiveness of the country's fruits, particularly bananas, mangoes, and pineapples. The project, funded under the South-South Cooperation program, will be executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and will focus on improving production, post-harvest management, and commercialisation. The project will also establish model farms and involve technical expertise from China. The initiative aims to mitigate challenges such as high post-harvest losses and low adherence to international quality standards, thereby boosting the domestic and international competitiveness of Sri Lanka's fruit sector.
