FAO: World meat prices increased slightly in March

World meat prices increased slightly in March (0.8%) compared to the previous month but decreased 5.3% compared to last year at this time, according to the Food Price Index compiled by the Organization of the United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO). In the third month of the year, increases were registered in the prices of bovine and pork meat. By contrast, poultry meat prices fell for the ninth consecutive month on sluggish global import demand. Sheep meat prices also fell. On the other hand, world dairy prices decreased by 0.8% compared to February and 10.7% compared to the same month a year ago. The decline in March was due to lower prices for cheese and powdered milk, while prices for butter rose.
