In February, the world prices for vegetable oils experienced a 3.2% decrease, reaching their lowest point since early 2021 with an average of 135.9 points, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This decline is primarily attributed to lower prices for palm, soybean, sunflower seed, and rapeseed oils. International palm oil prices have been on a downward trend for three consecutive months due to subpar global import demand. Additionally, soybean oil prices have dropped due to reduced purchases from key importers and anticipated increased production in South America. The food price index, which also includes dairy products, grains, meat, and sugar, saw a 0.6% decrease from January, marking its eleventh month of consecutive decline.
