Sheep and goat farmers in the country are awaiting the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF) to determine the specific indicators by which the situation with the sheep pox in small ruminants will be monitored, in order to initiate vaccination. Meanwhile, the disease continues to spread, with an outbreak now registered in the area of the Rila Monastery, Kyustendil region. The herd in which sheep pox has been detected numbers around 200 animals. This was reported by Simeon Karakolev, co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeders Association (NSGBA), to Agri.BG. According to him, the particularly worrying fact is that this is an isolated farm, indicating that the virus is already moving uncontrollably between separate regions. "We are waiting for the MAF to determine the indicators that will be monitored – whether and when vaccination should start.
