The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has introduced two new high-yield rice varieties, one of which is drought resistant and the other adapted to salt soil conditions. The university has also released eight agricultural and seven horticultural crops, including new paddy varieties, green gramme cultivars, and groundnut cultivars. The new paddy varieties have high yields and are suitable for different growing conditions. The green gramme cultivars have resistance to the mung bean yellow mosaic virus. The groundnut cultivars have a high yield and a 48% oil content. Other new releases include banana, turmeric, and brinjal varieties.
