São Paulo, 18/08/2025 - The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) from the Brazilian Institute of Economics at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Ibre/FGV) moderated from the first to the second fortnight of August, from 0.38% to 0.09%, influenced by the entry of the Itaipu energy bonus and the more intense drop in food prices. This assessment is from the economist and IPC-S coordinator, André Braz. "The trend is for the index to maintain this level until the end of August," he states.
Additionally, Braz highlights the decline in gasoline (-0.93%) in the Transportation group and in airfares (-5%) in Education, Reading, and Recreation, contributing to alleviate the overall index.
For September, however, the economist warns of the return of energy prices, with the exit of the Itaipu bonus from the IPC-S, and the loss of the positive seasonality effects of food.
