Peru: Fig exports fall 23% in volume and 28% in value in the first half of 2022

(Agraria.pe) In the first half of 2022, Peruvian fig exports totaled 460 tons for US$21 million, registering a drop of 23% in volume and 28% in value, compared to what was achieved in the same period of the previous year . The average price received for this product in the first six months of this year decreased by 7%, being on average US$ 5.10 per kilogram. The main destinations for this product were the United Kingdom, with a 45% share; the Netherlands, with 19%; and the United States, with 13%. Regarding the United Kingdom, Peru exported 202 tons for US$ 1 million. This was 52% more in volume and 35% more in value compared to 2021. Thanks to this, the British surpassed the Dutch and positioned themselves as the main buyer of Peruvian figs. Despite this good result, the price in this market decreased 11%, reaching US$ 5.20 per kilogram. For their part, the Dutch came to acquire a significantly lower amount than the previous year.
