The Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (Abic) has reported a significant increase in the price of roasted and ground coffee in 2021, with a 52% rise reported. This price hike is attributed to the rising costs of raw materials and other inputs such as gasoline, electricity, diesel oil, and packaging. As a result, consumers have changed their buying habits, opting to purchase only as much coffee as they consume at a given time, rather than stockpiling. Despite this, differentiated coffee products like espresso, beans, soluble, and gourmet coffees have not seen a decrease in sales. The high prices are expected to persice into the future due to high production costs and weather conditions impacting coffee production.
