The Lao-Chinese railway to Chongqing has delivered its first shipment of Thai rice, containing 1,000 tonnes. This is a significant step towards enhancing bilateral trade and boosting economic growth. The Thai government is considering exporting a variety of products, including fruit, orchids, rubber, cassava, palm oil, fishery, and livestock products, via the new railway. The advisor to the Agricultural Minister highlighted that Thai fruit can remain fresh during transit, offering potential for sale in Chinese markets. The railway is planning to extend its reach beyond China to East Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Europe. Additionally, the director of academic affairs at Chulalongkorn University has suggested upgrading the first Thai-Lao friendship bridge due to its small capacity and limited expansion potential.
