Egypt has reached 85% self-sufficiency in fish production, largely due to fish farming, which contributes 79.7% of the total 2 million tons produced annually. Fish prices vary, with tilapia priced between 90 to 100 pounds per kilo and shrimp ranging from 180 to 770 pounds. The Obour market provides wholesale prices for various fish types like bolti, squid, and mullet. The country aims to enhance fish exports and develop lakes to increase fish wealth, as highlighted by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics and former Agriculture Minister Sayed El-Quseir.
