Tridge summary

The provisional figures of the Flemish aggregate demand show an increase in the acreage for consumption potatoes in Flanders. 51,708 hectares are cultivated. That is 4.2% more than in 2021. The increased contract prices were probably an incentive to grow more potatoes. The increase can possibly also be explained by the better prices on the free market.

Since this year, the seed potato area in Flanders has been divided into 1,052 hectares of certified seed potatoes and 371 hectares of farm seed potatoes. Together, this amounts to a 2% increase in seed potato production. In addition to potatoes, considerably more maize is being grown in Flanders this year.
