Over 2,000 cows and water buffaloes are being evacuated from areas around Mayon volcano in the Philippines, as the volcano shows signs of potential eruption. The animals are being moved to temporary grazing areas as part of efforts to minimize losses. This evacuation is in addition to the relocation of over 12,600 villagers to emergency shelters. The government is taking steps to prevent a deeper economic impact, including providing veterinarian services to the animals. The Philippines, located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire," faces threats from about two dozen active volcanoes and is prone to typhoons and storms. However, despite these risks, residents in Albay, where Mayon is located, have learned to coexist with the volcano and find ways to benefit economically from it.
