Hungary's pork trade dynamics from 2005 to 2019 revealed a notable increase in exports by 69% and imports by 122%. Exports peaked in 2010 at 174.3 thousand tons, only to experience fluctuations thereafter, never reaching the initial high again. Imports, on the other hand, saw a decrease from 2005 to 2007 but surged from 2008 to 2013, even surpassing exports in 2013. Consumption by Hungarian households increased by 2 kilograms per year from 2002 to 2019, until the pandemic hit in 2020 and led to a significant drop in pork and meat product foreign trade. Despite the challenges, the trade balance was positive in 2020, with exports and imports standing at nearly 150 thousand tons and 130 thousand tons, respectively. In response to the difficulties, the Meat Association has launched a campaign to boost consumption.
