Two cases of atypical mad cow disease have been confirmed in Brazil, leading to suspensions of beef exports to six countries, including China and Saudi Arabia, which make up over 57% of Brazilian beef exports. The suspensions, effective between late August and early September, affect all slaughterhouses in Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, with the exception of Saudi Arabia, which has only suspended five slaughterhouses from Minas Gerais. This situation highlights the importance of sanitary protocols and the potential economic impact of such diseases on international beef trade.
