Tien Giang province in Vietnam has seen a surge in the price of coconuts, with farmers making a substantial income from the crop. Duong Van Vy and Nguyen Van Thanh, farmers in My Tho city and Cho Gao district respectively, have profited from the demand for fresh coconuts. The province has over 20,000 hectares of coconut cultivation, a rise of over 3,000 hectares in five years, and produces over 180,000 tons of coconuts annually. The crop is preferred for its suitability for local soil, drought and salt tolerance, and high economic value. Many localities are converting difficult production areas to coconut cultivation to adapt to climate change.
