[Korean Farmers' News Agency, Reporter Kim Young-min] As part of efforts to increase the mechanization rate of field farming, the process of mechanizing the entire cultivation of onions is expected to accelerate. The mechanization rate of field farming in our country stands at an average of 67% as of 2024. While 100% mechanization has been achieved in plowing, the mechanization rate falls short of the average in sowing, planting, and harvesting, which require a lot of labor. In fact, the mechanization rate in the sowing and planting stages is 18.2%, and it is only 42.9% in the harvesting stage. In response, the Rural Development Administration has determined that mechanizing the entire process of cultivating onions is one of the measures to increase the mechanization rate of field farming and is pushing for the spread of the technology.
