Fruit diversification in Ñuble: notable progress of the emblematic INIA project after the first year of execution

The Ñuble Region continues to consolidate its fruit-growing momentum with the advancement of the project “Sustainable and resilient fruit farming to climate change,” an initiative executed by the Agricultural Research Institute, INIA Quilamapu, and financed by the Regional Government. The program seeks to diversify the productive matrix by introducing macadamia, pistachio, and calafate, as well as strengthening the development of brown chestnut in the foothills and papaya in the coastal area. In the recent Monitoring Committee Meeting, INIA Quilamapu researcher and project leader Jorge Retamal presented a complete report after the first year of execution—out of a total of three—highlighting the fulfillment of the committed scientific, technical, and transfer activities, especially with the nearly one thousand producers from the 21 communes of Ñuble linked to the initiative.
