The Belgian Deinze and Barneveld broiler quotations have experienced a decrease due to an oversupply in the poultry meat market, attributed to increased imports from Poland and Ukraine. The European Commission's decision to exclude levies on Ukrainian chicken exports has significantly boosted imports, by 45,000 tonnes or 65%, compared to previous years. This oversupply, coupled with ample supply from Poland, has led to difficulty in placing Dutch poultry products in the market. Despite high energy prices, the market is not experiencing a traditional price dip in January and February. The current oversupply, caused by high production and tight supply due to bird flu, is expected to be temporary as demand for poultry meat remains strong.
