In September 2020, a severe outbreak of crown and foot rot disease was reported in self-rooted zucchini plants in an open-field crop in Fodele, Crete, Greece. The disease was characterized by symptoms such as wilting, yellowing, collapse, crown and foot rot, and vascular tissue discoloration. A fungus, Fusarium solani, was isolated from the symptomatic plants, marking the first report of crown and foot rot caused by this fungus in zucchini plants in Greece. The authors of the study, Krasagakis, Goumas, and Markakis, caution that this disease can lead to significant crop losses.
