(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jae-hyun = Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 13th that it will release potato chips with a corn flavor using the province's representative characters, "Gangwoni and Teukbyeoli," nationwide on the 16th.
The so-called Gangwon potato chips are a regional symbiotic product born from the combination of Gangwon's fresh potatoes and corn, the technological prowess of Haetai Confectionery, the distribution network of Lotte Mart, and the cheerful charm of the provincial characters Gangwoni and Teukbyeoli.
Haetai Confectionery purchased 75 tons of early potatoes produced by local farms in Pyeongchang and other areas in the province, along with Gangwon corn, and developed a savory and mild corn-flavored recipe.
A total of 180,000 packs will be produced at the Wonju Munmak factory and will be available through 106 Lotte Mart stores, 350 Lotte Super stores, and 7-Eleven convenience stores nationwide.
This collaboration, which began with a proposal from Lotte Mart, was jointly planned from July with the intention of creating a symbiotic product using local agricultural products.
The province plans to expand production quantities starting next year to promote the consumption of Gangwon agricultural products and enhance the regional brand value.
Gangwon potato chips will also be introduced at the "Gangwoni's Vegetable Store" independent stall.
To commemorate the release, customers who purchase products worth 5,000 won or more at the stall will receive a chance to enter a prize draw.
Through a draw, winners will be awarded resort accommodation in the province and limited edition Gangwoni and Teukbyeoli merchandise.
Governor Kim Jin-tae said, "This product is made from Gangwon-grown early potatoes harvested this year. We expect it to achieve three goals: expanding the farmers' sales channels, increasing company revenue, and promoting the province."
