The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) is advocating for the extension of oil palm plantations to meet the country's biofuel mandate, which requires a 50:50 mix of fuel oil and biofuel by 2045 (B50, potentially increasing to B100). Currently, palm oil production in Indonesia has reached a plateau at 50 million tons annually, and increasing production to B50 requires expanding agricultural areas into previously unused ones (extensification). GAPKI's Head of the Positive Campaign Division, Edi Suhardi, pointed out that palm oil exports have already been disrupted due to the B40 mandate and that increasing production through existing methods like improving plant productivity would be a lengthy process. Therefore, land extension is crucial to achieve the B100 target by 2045, requiring palm oil production to double.
