Garlic is the newest vegetable included in the National Agricultural Risk Zoning Program for Climate (Zarc), which establishes the production regions and the most favorable planting times for cultivation in Brazilian territory, based on the probabilities or risk of production loss caused by adverse meteorological events. The ordinances were published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Tuesday (25). The studies were prepared by researchers from Embrapa Vegetables, in conjunction with producer associations and institutions of agricultural education and research. The zoning functions as a climate risk management instrument and, in the case of garlic, covers the tropical and subtropical regions of the country, with the purpose of guiding producers, financial agents, and insurers.
