European garlic producers ask for more control at the borders to avoid fraud from China

Garlic producers from Spain, Italy and France have demanded greater control from Brussels to prevent the fraudulent entry of Chinese garlic into the European Union, as reported on Wednesday. The request, made by the Garlic Contact group made up of producers and marketers from Spain, France and Italy, is accompanied by a request for greater control at customs to control the entry of Chinese frozen garlic, especially at the border of Belgium. The situation faced by Spanish producers is already worrying the sector, because this crop has seen its planting area reduced by more than 17%, according to data from Agroseguro.
