Georgia has made its first sunflower oil purchase from Kazakhstan in eight years, importing over 300 tons worth $500,000 due to issues with traditional suppliers, Russia and Ukraine. Overall imports from Kazakhstan to Georgia have risen by 75% in the first nine months of 2022, reaching over $24 million, with goods including fertilizers, wheat, and spices. The Georgian National Statistical Service attributes the increase to Kazakhstan's rise in sunflower oil production. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Georgia, Georgy Dzhakhutashvili, sees Georgia as a logistical opportunity for Kazakhstani producers to access both Western and Eastern markets.
