Germany's Federal Minister of Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, has announced a significant revision to the country's Animal Welfare Law, marking the most comprehensive update in many years. The revisions aim to enhance animal welfare across various sectors, including online retail, domestic and agricultural animal husbandry, and the use of wild animals in traveling circuses. The changes incorporate advanced scientific research in animal protection. Key updates include a ban on tail docking for lambs, mandatory anesthesia for removing calves' horns, and a prohibition on tying animals. The office of the Federal Commissioner for Animal Welfare will be embedded at the legal level to bolster animal protection efforts in the country.
