In 2023, Germany emerged as a significant player in the European Union's honey market, importing notable quantities from Ukraine, Argentina, and Mexico, while honey imports from China ranked sixth. EU imports totaled 163,700 tons, with China contributing 37%, followed by Ukraine (28%) and Argentina (12%). Germany's imports from these countries accounted for a substantial portion of their overall honey production. Additionally, Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Olha Trofimtseva, emphasized the potential of beekeeping as an industry with gender equality and veteran participation, underscoring the quality of Ukrainian honey. Germany, responsible for 25% of the EU's honey imports, faces questions about honey origin and quality, especially from third countries like Ukraine, Argentina, and Mexico, as it covers half of its honey consumption through imports.
