The European Union's production of seed and plant onions rose by 3.2% to 6.4 million tons last year, with the Netherlands leading the way. Germany experienced the largest increase, with a 19% rise to 760,000 tons, and is expanding its cultivation area, especially near the Dutch border. Poland's production decreased by 2.5% due to reduced cultivation areas. Eastern European countries produce smaller quantities, offering opportunities for Dutch exports. Spain and France have seen variable production areas and yields. The Netherlands produced 1.6 million tons last year and is increasing its seed and plant onion cultivation area this year.
