Germany will produce more pork and less beef in the first half of 2025

According to preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), German slaughterhouses produced nearly 3.4 million tons of meat in the first half of 2025, a decrease of 0.1% (-1,900 tons) compared to the same period last year. In total, 23.9 million heads of pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, and horses, as well as 346.1 million chickens, turkeys, and ducks, were slaughtered during the first half of 2025. In the first six months of the year, German pig slaughterhouses slaughtered 22.1 million heads. This number corresponds to an increase of 0.7% (+156,900 heads) compared to the same period last year.
