Soybean cultivation in Brazil faces challenges, too, due to the presence of weeds that compromise productivity and can generate high losses for producers. At an event held this Tuesday (25) in Paulínia (SP), Gilmar Picoli, the Regulation Manager and herbicide specialist from Bayer's agricultural division, highlighted that, in addition to Buva, present in 22 million cultivated hectares from North to South of the country, five other weeds are also causing significant losses. During a presentation on the impacts and challenges in controlling these species, Picoli explained that the Borreria verticillata, known as Vassourinha-de-Botão, can generate losses close to R$ 2,000 per hectare. Studies show that the presence of three plants per square meter can cause a reduction of up to 14 bags of 60 kilograms per hectare of soybeans.
