The Government of Mozambique, represented by the Secretary of State for Nampula province, Jaime Neto, has called for increased private sector involvement in the cashew industry to boost production and commercialization. Neto, standing in for the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, made this appeal at the inaugural National Meeting of Concertation of Actors in the Cashew Value Chain. The country relies heavily on cashew as a cash crop, with over 1.4 million small farmers contributing to its cultivation. The Government is focusing on resolving issues along the cashew value chain and has recently passed the Cashew Law to foster an environment for the fair promotion of the cashew agribusiness.
