The government of Nepal has set the minimum support price for sugarcane at Rs 540 per quintal for the 2023 season, which is an increase of Rs 20 from the previous year. In addition to this, farmers will also receive a transport subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal. Despite these measures, farmers are still unsatisfied and have demanded that the government raise the floor price to at least Rs 700 per quintal. The government's decision to set a floor price for sugarcane in 2018 was aimed at resolving conflicts between farmers and sugar producers, but issues with payment and subsidy delivery persist.
