The EU's trade surplus in the food industry reached 5.4 billion euros in September 2025, which is 45% more than in August, reflecting a strong recovery on a monthly basis. However, the surplus remains 6% lower than in September 2024. Between January and September, the total surplus amounted to 35.7 billion euros, which is 13.5 billion euros less than the same period in 2024, mainly due to higher import prices, especially for cocoa and coffee. Exports of agricultural food from the EU reached 20.1 billion euros in September, which is 13% more than in August and 4% more than in September 2024. Since January, the cumulative exports amount to 177.4 billion euros, an increase of 2.6 billion euros compared to 2024, mainly due to higher export prices for cocoa and coffee. The United Kingdom remains the largest external market for the EU between January and September, accounting for 23% of total exports - 41.5 billion euros.
