Greece has mobilized local authorities, police, and Civil Protection due to monkeypox among animals in the Larissa region

By decision of Costas Tsiaras, a team from the Ministry of Health, Social Care and Sports, led by Christos Kelas, is today in Larissa to strictly enforce measures against smallpox. Yesterday, a broad meeting of officials was held at the Ministry of Rural Development and Food of Greece, led by the Minister of Rural Development and Food Costas Tsiaras, with the participation of Deputy Minister Christos Kelas, where smallpox cases and the strategy for addressing them were discussed. It was decided to mobilize all available resources to strictly adhere to all measures provided in Regulation 687/2020, in the Commission's implementing decisions, as well as in the relevant circulars, with amendments and in force from time to time. For the implementation of the measures, the assistance of local authorities (local government and police, as well as Civil Protection) will be requested, in order to limit zoonoses.
