Greece tightens measures against the flu during the holiday season

In view of the increased needs during the holiday season and following the appropriate recommendation from the National Scientific Committee for the Management and Control of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in Greece, the authorities in our southern neighbor issued instructions for the proper organization of the movement of sheep and goats for slaughter during the Christmas period to prevent the worsening of the PPR epizootic, reports the Ministry of Rural Development and Food of Greece. To avoid disrupting the meat production chain, eight important rules have been established that producers, slaughterhouses, and traders must follow. 1. Movements for the slaughter of animals will be carried out only with permission from the competent veterinary authority, which issues a health certificate - a movement document that accompanies the load. 2.
