Greek farmers have started protests across the country today over unpaid subsidies and compensations, reported the BNR correspondent in Greece. Farmers from Crete are traveling by ferry to Athens to participate in a large protest demonstration. They are joined by others from agricultural areas of the country in support. The airport in Alexandroupolis has been blocked with a human chain and machinery, where Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to arrive today. While the European Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the scandal involving stolen millions of euros in European subsidies, the Ministry of Agriculture has halted all payments to farmers. Livestock farmers also report that they are stepping up protests because, due to the sheep pox, over 300,000 animals have been destroyed, and they have not received any compensation.
