Green light for the basic Lérez dredging project, after 9 years of waiting

The dredging of the Lérez, the most important project of this category by Portos de Galicia in the autonomous community, finally seems on track for completion. The Xunta publishes this Monday in the Official Gazette of Galicia the approval of the basic project for the dredging works of the Lérez, from the bridge of As Correntes and the Naval Club to the cape of Os Praceres, at the end of the access channel to the city by the Ría de Pontevedra. The public information procedure for its environmental impact study is also initiated. This is the moment awaited by the shellfish brotherhoods, who believe that this dredging is vital to recover the clam bank of the river — which used to bring in a million euros a year to the Campelo market until it was almost completely lost as the mud covering the channel advanced — and by the Naval Club, which has two of its three docks with serious difficulties due to lack of depth, with one being dry at low tide.
